This weekend, Ableton brings Loop to Berlin: three days of performances, talks, and interactive workshops aimed at exchanging ideas at the cutting edge of music, creativity, and technology.
Ableton is one of those brands that's always at the vanguard of the best music-making technology. Thanks to products such as Live and Push, which are widely used by musicians worldwide, Ableton is synonymous with 'cutting edge'. So it's very fitting that they're bringing out a new event, Loop, to one of creative capitals of Europe, Berlin.
Berlin: A Capital Of Creativity
Since the seventies, Germany has been the birthplace of exciting new music, from the Krautrock of Can to Kraftwerk. And Berlin, in particular, has attracted many creative types over the years - from David Bowie and Brian Eno, to U2 and, more recently, exiles such as techno legend Richie Hawtin, Peaches and Anton Newcombe of Brian Jonestown Massacre.
Berlin, then, is the ideal place for a summit of creative music makers!
What is Loop?
Loop takes place from Friday 30th October to Sunday 1st November at Radialsystem V, Berlin - three days of performances, talks, and interactive workshops aimed at exchanging ideas at the cutting edge of music, creativity, and technology. Bringing together artists, technologists, and other creative thinkers, Loop is a collective exploration of what it is to make music today and what it could be tomorrow.
At Loop, 400 diverse music makers will gather to collaborate on new ideas, learn new techniques, and sharpen their creative tools. By day, creatives can attend talks, participate in hands-on workshops with cutting-edge technology, draw inspiration from watching other artists work, and share their insights. By night, attend inspiring performances by acts such as Money Mark, James Holden, Forest Swords and many more.
Loop takes place at RADIALSYSTEM V, a former water pumping station situated on the river Spree, in the urban center of Berlin between the Friedrichshain, Mitte, and Kreuzberg districts. RADIALSYSTEM V opened in 2006 and now functions as a cultural center where new ideas ‘radiate’ out in all directions, attracting artists and the public from within as well as beyond the city limits of Berlin.
Ableton Events at Loop
Parallel to Loop, Ableton is teaming up with Berlin-based CTM – Festival for Adventurous Music and Art to present a series of nighttime concerts, billed as CTM vs. Ableton. Needless to say, Loop will provide plenty of opportunities for punters to see just how much Ableton Push can do!
Since it was released, Push became one of the most desirable instruments for the creative makers of electronic music. It is a new instrument that solves an old problem: how to make a song from scratch. With hands-on control of melody and harmony, beats, sounds, and song structure, Push puts the fundamental elements of music making at your fingertips - and it fits in a backpack alongside your laptop.
Push uses the power of Ableton Live running on your computer. Live provides Push with a comprehensive collection of instruments and effects, many of which are optimized for use with Push.
All of your sounds are ready to be played, tweaked, and personalized. Fine-tune parameters in your instruments and effects using Push’s touch-sensitive encoders and see everything from Push’s display.
Push is also the ultimate performance controller, with pads that can be instantly re-purposed into a clip launching grid. And Live’s tight integration with Max for Live lets you customize Push for your own working style, or reprogram it to add new features and workflows.
