In the past few years, Electro-Harmonix have been in the habit of releasing new pedals almost by surprise, little by little and without big announcements. Maybe they know that whenever they decide to come up with something new, people will be interested straight away, no need for hype! And that was just the case last weekend, when the company announced two great new pedals.
The new 22500 Dual Stereo Looper is a very tasty looper pedal, perhaps the most interesting we've seen a a long time.
Due to the success of Ed Sheeran, looper pedals have been rising in popularity, but one aspect of this popularity is that manufacturers have been driven to design increasingly simpler looper pedals, easier to use, to appeal to as many people as possible. Nothing wrong with this, as the simplicity of those pedals, such as the Ditto Looper or EHX's own 360 Looper, is one of the things that helps making them so good in the first place.
But it's good to see Electro-Harmonix taking a different approach, and releasing a powerful looper, perfect for the professional and creative musicians, with lots of functions - though still designed for ease of use!
It features two loop footswitches that control recording, playback and overdubbing, plus a third switch for stop, tap tempo or rhythm start/stop. Other features include XLR mic input, phantom power for condenser mics, reverse and octave buttons, 100 loop banks, quantized looping and built-in drum loops to further expand the pedal's features.
Simply put, this pedal is not for someone just casually interested in doing some basic loops, but perfect for the more adventurous musicians:
Slightly less exciting, the Electro-Harmonix Silencer should still be of interest for many guitarists, since this Noise Gate / Effects Loop Pedal is ideal for players whose high gain effects create difficult to control hum and noise. It can tame a single pedal or an entire effects loop, making sure your overall sound is not compromised.
Both pedals are expect to be ship in August.
