Of all the technical wizardry that happens in our studio computers the most perplexing has to be reverb. How do they manage to make the sound of a guitar recorded in our wardrobe sound like it's coming from within a cathedral or Abbey Road Studio 2?
Well Propellerhead aren't spilling all their space creation secrets but they have made this awesome video that explains a little bit about one of the least understood types, convolution reverb. Taking a recording of one tiny snippet in any space (or through any outboard gear) you can capture the exact characteristics of the environment or algorithm.
Thanks to Propellerheads relentless creativity they've made convolution reverb available in the RV7000mkII rack unit in Reason 8.3!
