Stairway To Heaven: The SG Double-Neck Is Back!

The original Gibson EDS-1275 is an instantly-recognizable instrument, and one of the most iconic guitars in Rock'n'Roll's history. It was immortalized by Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, who played one live on songs such as Stairway To Heaven. Now, the Epiphone Limited Edition G-1275 Double Neck SG in Cherry pays homage to this legendary guitar, and will be arriving soon at PMT Online and selected PMT Stores!

Originally made in 1963, the solid-body EDS-1275 was designed to resemble the SG model, and because of this it's often referred to as the "SG double neck" due to its similar shape. However, both necks of the 1275 have a shorter scale fret board than the Gibson SG, and they have fixed tail pieces, where the SG has an adjustable one.
Even though Jimmy Page was the guitarist who brought the guitar to wider attention (and many guitarists' wish lists...) he wasn't the first rock legend to play one: Pete Townshend used a SG double neck in 1967, typically on the opening numbers for The Who's live sets that year:

Other guitarists who played a SG double-neck over the years include John McLaughlin, Alex Lifeson of Rush, Elvis Presley, The Eagle's Don Felder, Ace Frehley of Kiss and, more recently, Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips and even Mark Ronson, when he performed 'Valerie' with Amy Winehouse at the 2008 Brit Awards:

However, there's no doubt that it is Jimmy Page the one who's indelibly linked to the SG double neck, and the main reason many guitarists fancy one.

A double-neck guitar may seem like a perfect symbol for seventies' Rock'n'Roll excess, but Page explained he used one out of necessity: it was the only way Led Zeppelin could perform 'Stairway To Heaven' live, due to the many different guitar sounds in it. And that is the reason why the SG Double neck is so good - it gives you freedom to conveniently play two completely different types of guitar during the same song! This is an instrument fit for rock gods, yeah, but also for any creative guitarist!
Now, you can buy the Epiphone Limited Edition G-1275 Double Neck SG for a fraction of the price of an original Gibson EDS-1275... but just as stunning!

Please note that this new Limited-Edition guitar will be available at very small quantities - Epiphone will only distribute 300 worldwide!  If you really want one, you're advised to pre-order it as soon as possible to avoid disappointment!
